About Newcastle Upon Tyne

Generally referred to as Newcastle and situated in the north east of England on the River Tyne is the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The city grew from a Roman settlement and continued to develop as an important area for wool, mining and shipbuilding. Modern day Newcastle is a technology and retail hub, known internationally for it’s half marathon and Newcastle United Football Club as well as good night out on the town - or as the locals call it, the Toon.

City Centre

Perfect for everything the town has to offer as well as university access. Not such a wide range of accommodation available but the amenities and easy access to the nightlife still make it a popular choice.

Heaton

Sitting east of the city centre is the area of Heaton. It’s a large neighbourhood and offers a range of amenities and transport options to the town as well as other areas of Newcastle. Popular with students and young professionals in particular due to its proximity to the city centre. The nearby Chillingham Road has a number of smaller shops and takeaways but there are also larger supermarkets nearby so you are fully covered.

The area is primarily terraced streets which means there is decent availability in the area for a reasonable price. The popular Heaton Park serves the area and is incredibly popular during the summer with a few events taking place in this large park. Heaton has long been popular with students so you are sure to find a great student buzz in the area.

Jesmond

Another incredibly popular area for students is Jesmond. Just north of the city centre and easily walkable from university, the area has everything a student might need. Multiple transport options serve the area so getting into town is easy. Central Jesmond has lots to offer including cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, but because of this the area can be a little more pricey. But of course these prices can be explained by the proximity and the amenities that Jesmond offers.
