About this place

Home to 617 students, Drapery Plaza (formerly known as Liberty Plaza) is perfectly located for you to make the most of student life in London, with many of the city’s universities easily reached by public transport.

There’s a huge range of high-quality rooms for you to choose from. Opt for an en-suite and you’ll have your own bathroom, plus a fully-fitted kitchen and living room to share with your flatmates. Pick a studio, however, and you’ll have everything to yourself. Want to share with a friend? One of our twin studios might be the best choice for you.

Explore the rest of Drapery Plaza and you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained. Common areas offer comfortable seating and activities such as pool or foosball, while study spaces offer a quiet spot to get your head down. If you’re feeling active, there’s even a gym and dance studio for you to use whenever you feel like it.

Leaving your flat behind you for the day couldn’t be more exciting, with the vibrant streets of Shoreditch and Spitalfields under a mile away. Check out Brick Lane and Old Spitalfields markets for a diverse range of treasures and some delicious food. Stick around until evening and you’ll find plenty of trendy bars, restaurants and nightclubs to enjoy.

Social Scene
We get it – you’re a student, but there’s more to life than studying. You want to be surrounded by exciting things and plenty to do. Thankfully, there are loads of bars, pubs and nightlife on your doorstep when you stay at Drapery Plaza. This diverse area of East London has plenty restaurants and pubs, with some student favourites just on your doorstep – so it’s pretty handy!

You’ll be in heaven if Asian cuisine is your thing; you’re just a 14 minute walk from the delights of Brick Lane, and you’ve got many Indian restaurants before you even make your way over there too, including Halal Restaurant and The Empress. If all that sounds a bit too hot to handle, there are some great places around the area, thanks in part to the fact that the residence is at the hub of commercial activity in London. For lunch, you can walk 10 minutes and try Tossed, Itsu, Tortilla, or Soupe du Jour, or of course, the trusty Pret a Manger. Dinner options include Abbey Bar, Thai Square or The Slug and Lettuce. Finally, if you feel like a short walk, nearby Spitalfields has loads of awesome places to try, including the quirky The Breakfast Club.

Central London is only a short train ride away, but before you even have to venture down there, you should give some of the up-and-coming local areas a try. Hoxton and Shoreditch are both close by and are fun, vibrant areas, with lots of nightlife, bars and even art galleries. The area of Islington is also only up the road at just 15 minutes on the bus, and there’s loads to do, including places to eat and drink on Upper Street. You’ll also range of music venues throughout these areas, including The Old Blue Last, The O2 Academy, The Garage and plenty more.

You can also sample a range of fun places throughout the surrounding areas, like XOYO in Shoreditch and more.

The area of Whitechapel has a range of local amenities which are super simple for you to access. The nearest supermarket is Sainsbury’s; it’s literally on your doorstep and you can’t miss it. You’ve also got a couple of Tesco Express stores and even Petticoat Lane Markets for some bargains just minutes from the residence.

In terms of shopping, you’ll want to head to One New Change, just down the road at Moorgate. It’s got student faves like H&M and student dining staples like Nando’s, but also some slightly posher stuff like All Saints for when you want to treat yourself. Shoreditch also isn’t too far away at all, and you ought to visit BoxPark; a series of edgy pop-up shops in giant boxes specialising in fashion and accessories.

Drapery Plaza sits in the heart of London’s East End with its cosmopolitan vibe. The residence straddles both quirky, edgy areas like Shoreditch, Hoxton, Whitechapel and Islington, and yet is also only minutes from the hustle and bustle of the City of London and the corporate world.

The Barbican Centre is a performing arts centre and hosts classical and contemporary music concerts, theatre performances and art exhibitions and is only 25 minutes’ walk from your new home.

For more cultural fun, The Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe are just over a thirty minute walk away or short tube journey. You’ve also got absolutely iconic places like London Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Gherkin, The Shard and The Tower of London within 30 minutes’ walk in each direction. You can even do a Jack The Ripper walking tour, as the area is where he was on the prowl all those years ago – don’t worry, he’d be long dead now!

Further afield via tube you will find everything else that London has to offer such as the shops of Oxford Street, the delights of Camden Market or Soho and of course, the touristy places like The London Eye and Westminster, where there is an array of sights to be seen.

Remember, you’re here to learn (technically), so it helps to be close to your University or College. London has literally hundreds of these and we can cater to them all, but as an idea, University College London is 15 minutes away by public transport, University of the Arts and Kings College London just 10 minutes away, and Queen Mary University at 15 minutes away on the tube.

Finally, if you just fancy staying in, there’s a brilliant common room, music studios, a gym and great facilities throughout Drapery Plaza to keep you entertained.
