With 334 students calling it home, The Bakery (previously known as Taff House and Liberty Park) sits on the banks of the River Taff and is less than a 10-minute walk to Cardiff Central train station and the vibrant city centre.

Choose an en-suite room and you’ll benefit from having your own bathroom, plus a shared kitchen area that comes fully equipped with appliances. Want more privacy? Our studios give you the chance to have a living space all to yourself, including a kitchen, bathroom, bed and study desk.

Outside of your flat, you’ll find a communal area with comfortable seating, which is perfect for getting to know your neighbours, plus an outdoor courtyard for you to use on sunny days.

Cardiff University and the University of South Wales are both less than 30 minutes away by foot, while all other higher education campuses are easily reachable by bus. Being so close to the city centre, you’ll also have access to a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants - perfect for those odd days off.

The Bakery benefits from being located in the heart of Cardiff’s university district. St Mary’s Street, just around the corner from the residence, offers student nightlife at its best and you can take your pick from a wide variety of bars, clubs and restaurants these include: Walkabout, Brewhouse, Ladybird, Kapu and Soda – to name just a few.

Just next to St Mary’s Street is Mill Lane where there are plenty of cocktail bars and restaurants to enjoy, and let your hair down. Peppermint Bar, Mocka, Las Iguanas, Ask, Bill’s, and Retro are just some of the names on offer.

A 10 minute walk through the city centre and you will find yourself at Grey Friars Road where some of the best nightclubs and bars can be found. These include Tiger Tiger, Varsity, Lloyds, Pryzm and Glam plus many more.

Alternatively, Cardiff Student Union is a 10 minute drive or less than a 25 minute walk from The Bakery and offers a range of nights to suit everyone. One night held each month is Treatment, Cardiff’s answer to The Warehouse Project where a range of famous and local DJ’s have performed. A short distance from The Bakery is the historic Cardiff Castle, located right next to Bute Park. Both are great places to visit and enjoy in the summer months, or when you’ve got some free time outside of lectures.

National Museum Cardiff is a 10 minute walk from the residence and displays some of the finest art collections from over 500 years ago. The Museum also shows the natural history of Wales, as well as taking you through a journey of the Evolution of Wales, so you can learn a bit more about your new home.

Principality Stadium, home to the Welsh Rugby team, and Cardiff Arm’s Park – The Cardiff Blues Rugby team, are right on your doorstep. If you get a chance to see a game at either of these stadiums you won’t be disappointed, the atmosphere is electric on match days. The Motorpoint Arena is just a few minutes' walk from The Bakery; the venue hosts many famous comedians and music artists as well as a variety of shows, and is open most days of the week. 

A 5 minute walk from The Bakery is a Cineworld where you can see the latest blockbusters, and St David’swhich is an indoor shopping mall – it’s home to over 120 brand name shops – perfect for a spot of retail therapy.

 If you’d rather see the theatre than a film you can head to the New Theatre or Sherman Cymru, which have a wide variety of live entertainment every week.

Cardiff Bay is a 5 minute journey by train from The Bakery and is home to the Doctor Who Experience, where you can visit some of the filming locations from the show. Wales Millennium Centre is also worth a visit, and for something different, why not take a boat ride back to the city centre for small fare and take in the wonderful scenic views of Cardiff?

Staying Active
Sports fans will be spoiled for choice in Cardiff. Your student accommodation at The Bakery is next door to the Millennium Stadium and Pure Gym, which offers cheap student membership. Your membership includes access to the gym and all of their exercise classes, 24-hours a day.

For fans of professional sport, the Millennium Stadium is home to the Welsh Rugby team and hosts many sporting events throughout the year. If football is more up your street, Cardiff City FC, known as the Cardiff Bluebirds, play at the Cardiff City Stadium and it’s less than 10 minutes away from the residence by car.

There are many other gyms dotted around Cardiff city centre and all are within easy walking distance from The Bakery. Easy Gym on Queen Street and Vitality Gym on Park Place are just a couple of options which are popular amongst students. They both offer competitive rates and excellent facilities.

Travel and Transport
Cardiff Central bus and train stations are located near to The Bakery, just a few minutes’ walk away. Regular train services run to London, Bristol and Swansea, all under two hours away. Train and bus services in the city also run frequently and provide links to every part of Cardiff, including Cardiff Bay and Cathays areas.

Cardiff is also on the Megabus route so it’s easy to visit friends or family at home for the weekend, all for a reasonable fare.

If you’re travelling from further afield, Cardiff Airport is located just outside the city centre and can be easily reached by bus or train, approximately 20 minutes away.

Additionally, a variety of takeaways, post office, chemists and hairdressers can be found in the city centre.

The main library for Cardiff is Cardiff Central Library, located a few minutes’ walk away, and is open every day apart from Sundays. University of South Wales also have a library and computer room which is open until late in the evening – and it’s conveniently located for some late night studying. Additionally, Cathays Library is a short distance away from The Bakery and is open 9am-7pm.
