Popular Student Areas of Southampton
The area of Portswood is popular with students and offers great transport links as well as a high street with all the amenities and many bars and restaurants.
Near to the university the area of Swaythling is popular with Southampton university students. Traditionally offering smaller shops and some takeaways, the area still offers good transport links to other areas of the city including the city centre.
Highfield is located close to the large Southampton Common so is great for those looking for some outdoor space to enjoy. The area is known for being a bit quieter than some other areas and offers easy access to university.
Basset is good for students studying at Boldrewood Campus or Southampton General Hospital. The area is also home to lots of Southampton’s sports facilities including a golf course and snow sports centre.
Shirley sits just northwest of the city centre and has lots to offer in its own right, with a number of bars, pubs and shops in the vicinity. Popular with medical students due to its proximity to Southampton General Hospital.
