About this place

Location

Manchester and Salford are both lively and diverse cities, with people from all backgrounds coming to live and study. The city centres are within walking distance of Peel Park Quarter and can also be accessed easily on public transport.

Salford is home to MediaCityUK, a unique waterfront destination and one of the country’s leading digital and media hubs. The University of Salford is the only university to have a campus at MediaCityUK.

As well as being on the doorstep of Manchester’s shops, nightlife and entertainment, Salford has its own great selection of relaxed local pubs and bars to unwind in.

Greater Manchester is proud to be LGBTQI+ friendly. From Salford University’s support of their LGBTQI+ students to Manchester’s hugely popular Gay Village and its renowned annual Pride Parade Weekend.

There are some fantastic cultural destinations to visit in Greater Manchester, including the Manchester Museum, People’s History Museum, the Museum of Science & Industry, and the Imperial War Museum North. The Salford Museum & Art Gallery and the Working- Class Movement Library can also be found on the University of Salford campus.

The Village

The village is conveniently located with the Frederick Road campus on your doorstep and the main Peel Park campus and its facilities just a 15-minute walk away.

There’s a host of different room types to choose from at a range of prices. We have flats specifically suited to first-year students and others that are more popular with returning residents and post-graduates looking for a more relaxed atmosphere.

The village is particularly popular with nursing and healthcare students, with the Mary Seacole and Allerton Building on the Frederick Road campus just a short walk away. In addition, both Salford Royal Hospital and Manchester’s city centre hospitals are easily accessible either by foot, car or public transport.

Explore your surroundings and hang out with your new neighbours in one of the village’s social spaces.
Thanks to our free events programme, which runs throughout the academic year, you’ll make friends in no time. On-site, you’ll have access to a communal kitchen, quiet study spaces, as well as laundry facilities and a free on-site gym, which is exclusively for the use of John Lester & Eddie Colman residents.

Over at the main Peel Park campus, you’ll find the university Clifford Whitworth library, University Support Services, Sports Centre, student store and the lively Students’Union bar, Atmosphere.

The village is conveniently located just a five-minute walk from Salford Shopping Centre with its supermarkets, retail shops and eateries. Getting around Salford and into Manchester couldn’t be easier.

There are plenty of regular and direct buses to Manchester city centre, or you can walk it in 30 minutes.
University of Salford students studying at MediaCityUK can take advantage of free travel on the dedicated bus service, which runs past the village and onto Salford Quays.

A short walk from University of Salford and a stone’s throw from Salford Shopping Centre, your new apartment in John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts will help you to enjoy a happy, social and convenient student lifestyle. We’re not the only ones who think so either – we’re the uni’s only affiliated accommodation partner and we operate in partnership with UoS to ensure we provide a great experience.

As these halls are available to first years and returning students as well as post-grads, nursing and healthcare students, they’re a great choice for uni-goers who’d love to meet a diverse range of people, partying as much or as little as you like. Our fun residential activities will help you to come together with likeminded people so you can craft your uni experience your way!

At John Lester and Eddie Colman you’ll be able to relax and unwind with new friends in our lively social lounge, complete with social spaces and pool table, or cook out in the sun in our BBQ area. For the sporty and health-conscious among you, we’re also pleased to offer a half basketball court in the courtyard and a FREE on-site gym!
