Step outside of Wellington St Plaza and you’ll be in the city centre in just a few minutes. Here, you’ll find several multi-screen cinemas, hundreds of shops and a huge range of bars. Feeling hungry? They can be reached in only 20 minutes on the Metro.

Newcastle is a shopper’s paradise; Eldon Square is 10 minutes’ walk from Wellington St Plaza and is open until 8pm, so there’s no excuse not to grab those last minute bargains for a big night out. There are over 150 shops to choose from, including all the huge high street brand names like John Lewis, Apple, New Look, Topshop and hundreds more. Northumberland Street is the main shopping area, with some quirky individual shops, or you can try the famous Metrocentre in Gateshead, if you fancy venturing a short distance – 20 minutes away by bus.

Newcastle University is recognised as being one of the best universities in the UK for sport. The University offer a scheme called Get Active Newcastle for students through council-run membership schemes to local gyms such as Eldon Leisure. 10 minutes’ walk away is The Centre for Physical Recreation and Sport and offers both performance sport and more casual exercise classes such as aerobics, yoga and dance classes.

 For fans of professional sports, St James’ Park – home of world-famous Newcastle United Football Club is a stone's throw away from the residence. Kingston Park Rugby Ground, home of the Newcastle Falcons, is a 20-minute Metro journey away.

The Newcastle Eagles are the most successful British Basketball team in the league and they play their games at Northumbria University, 15 minutes’ walk away.

There are five stations within walking distance of Wellington St Plaza. The Metro service also has a direct line through Newcastle train station and out to Newcastle Airport for those living abroad; it also links Newcastle to its neighbouring city and friendly rival, Sunderland.

As well as the Metro system and Central train station there are two bus stations, offering cheap fares across the city. If you are feeling really adventurous, catch one of the daily ferries from the International Ferry Terminal at North Shields to Amsterdam.
